Class Descriptions
All Yogi Beans classes provide a balance between structured and free–flowing age–specific activities. Classes for children ages two through four are 45 minutes in length; children ages five and up are 60 minutes. Sprinkled with picture books, music and other age–appropriate props, children are fully immersed in the world of yoga in a most delightful way!
Core Kids Classes
-
Seedlings (Ages 2 to 3)
This class moves at an energetic pace to keep up with your toddler's imagination! Children at this age learn best through simple hands-on exercises, use of fun props and the repetition of songs, games and playful and easy yoga poses. Parent or caregiver participation is required.
-
Little Beans (Ages 3 to 4)
Due to younger children having short attention spans, this class format moves at a fast pace. Children of this age learn best through simple hands–on exercises, use of fun props, and the repetition of songs, games and playful yoga poses. Class structure is kept consistent each week so that, after only a few classes, you may find your little seedling in an impromptu downward facing dog at home!
-
Sprouting Beans (Ages 5 to 7)
These classes are extremely imaginative and creatively introduce all age–appropriate poses and activities. Classes incorporate easily understood explanations of breathing techniques, yoga poses and concepts related to focus and concentration all while maintaining a fun and playful environment. As some children may be stronger or more flexible than others, our instructors often remind their students "yoga is a practice, not a perfect."
-
Budding Beans (Ages 8 to 10)
The Yogi Beans curriculum for this age group gives our instructors the opportunity to teach more challenging and creative poses and games, while keeping class playful. Classes focus on building self–confidence, physical strength and concentration. Partner poses, inversions and arm balances are explored, and poses are held for longer amounts of time with a basic introduction to alignment. Children are encouraged to freely express their individuality while learning the basic yogic principles of respect for others (yamas) and themselves (niyamas).
Specialty Kids Classes
-
Tweens (Ages 10 to 13)
Our unique Tween curriculum uses yoga to help bridge the gap between child and teenager. Building on the "Budding Beans" curriculum, our Tween classes incorporate a more adult approach to the yoga poses, breath and meditation, while encouraging the individuality and creativity of each Tween. More mature explanations of yoga concepts and techniques to use off the mat are introduced as well. Tween classes often naturally encourage discussion on physical and developmental issues and explore problem solving through yoga concepts.
-
Yoga for Teens (Ages 14 to 17)
This class is an extension of our Tween curriculum. Greater emphasis is placed on correct alignment in poses and more vigorous flow. Play time is ample in these fun classes with inversions (handstand), arm balances (flying crow), and backbends that help build strength and flexibility. As being a teenager can be a stressful time, classes will also focus on restorative poses and meditation to encourage relaxation and self-awareness. Class time may also be devoted to questions and discussion.
-
Postnatal Mommy & Me (Ages 6 Weeks to Crawling)
Yoga practiced with your baby is a powerful way to connect with your new child. In this class, many of the asanas (poses) are geared towards helping Mommy reclaim her physique. Gentle baby asanas and massages are also incorporated to help Mommy learn how to calm and teach basic motor development to her baby. This class offers a wonderful opportunity to join or create a community of new mothers and friends with similar healthy goals and parenting styles.
-
You & Me Yoga (All ages)
This class appeals to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and adult caregivers that seek a fun and mutually enjoyable way to bond with their little yogi. The class format is similar to a core Yogi Beans class of the child's age range while incorporating games and poses that engage both adult and child. These classes uniquely create the foundation for a healthy and lifelong bonding activity and connection. No prior yoga experience is necessary.
-
Family Yoga & Meditation (3-7 or 5-10)
Yoga practiced as a family is a wonderful way to instill cooperation, communication and respect for each other. It is also a fantastic means to mitigate sibling rivalries as emphasis is placed on teamwork and collaboration. This specialized class is geared toward the child with parent participation required, though, no adult yoga experience is necessary. At the end of each family yoga class special attention is given to the importance of relaxation and basic meditation techniques are taught.
-
Special Beans Yoga (All ages)
In this calm and grounding, yet playful, class atmosphere, your child will be exposed to specifically designed activities, exercises and games. Special Beans Yoga classes aim to enhance a child's body awareness, balance and coordination, as well as build muscle tone and strength. Mind–body activities help children develop sensory integration skills including sustained levels of focused attention, self–locomotion, and planning and general organizational skills. Breathing techniques are incorporated that help children self–soothe and regulate their minds. Classes encourage each child to practice at their own pace. Our trained instructors focus on each child's individual needs while cultivating a class environment where kids can learn, grow and thrive.
-
Storytime Yoga (Ages Walking to 2)
In this class, the littlest of Yogis are encouraged to explore movement through song, play, movement and stories. The class has a lighthearted approach to direction-taking and flows between structured and unstructured activities. Parent or caregiver participation is required.
-
Sing-Along Yoga (Ages 3 to 4)
In this unique Yogi Beans class, your Little Beans will sing and dance their way through yoga poses by learning "yoga dances" to fun and lively music. Combining rhythmic exercises with yoga and dance movement, this class leaves children feeling happy and uplifted.
