FAQs

I'm not so sure about this whole "yoga–for–kids" idea... Does Yogi Beans offer drop–in classes?

Of course! Many children have been previously exposed to music, soccer, ballet and art, and we understand that yoga may be a new and novel activity for your child (and for you!). We understand that you may want to check us out before signing–up for a series. We encourage you to view our online schedule, find a class that works for you, and come on over to try it out! Upon finding a class that works with your schedule, we recommend sticking with the same class each week so that your child can build upon the skills s/he learns to grow her/his practice..

So you are doing drop–in classes, great! But are you still offering class series each season?

Yes! We are still offering the option to purchase an entire class series up–front for your little yogi at the beginning of each season. Your class series is valid for an entire season. Once the season ends your class pass will expire. Our Yogi Beans season dates are as follows:

What is your philosophy on parent participation?

It is our philosophy that "you know your child best." For You & Me Yogi Beans classes, we ask that all accompanying adults be prepared to engage with their child and participate in the class (e.g., wearing appropriate clothing to sit on a yoga mat and being willing to bark like a dog in downward facing dog pose). While our drop–off classes are designed as separation classes, we leave the level of participation to your discretion. We do ask, however, that your participation does not disrupt the flow of the class at any time. Some children do better with a mom, dad, grandparent or nanny around, even helping them with some exercises; some fare better when they are left alone.

But my child is only 2 years old and she can barely talk. How does a toddler do yoga?

A toddler's yoga practice will obviously look different from an adult's yoga practice and we do not expect toddlers to participate the way older children do. Yogi Beans' toddler classes are high–energy and filled with songs and games to keep children engaged and learning. However, the same principles of a traditional yoga practice, namely, pranayama, asana and meditation, are woven throughout each Yogi Beans class regardless of age. In Yogi Beans classes, poses are named after familiar animals and animal noises are often encouraged (like elephant pose or snake pose), conscious breathing is taught through the use of props (like feathers and bubbles!), and guided visualizations help foster relaxation ("imagine yourself lying in the grass in the park and feel the breeze on your feet"). All of our instructors are skilled at taking yoga concepts and making them fully relatable to children — it's what we love to do!

Is there a minimum enrollment to hold a class? At what point are classes cancelled?

Yogi Beans is a unique program in that we will not cancel a class even if there are only one, two, or three children enrolled. We do this because we have a very diverse customer base. While some parents may prefer their child to have a more social experience interacting in larger classes, many parents prefer smaller classes where their child is able to receive a greater level of individual attention (and they also take advantage of the almost private nature of the lesson — normally priced at $140 per session — for a fraction of the cost)!
